STEPHEN M HORNBY

"Works in London. Criminologist. Once played Princess Diana."

For To Russia With Love: Stage:"One Abstention by Stephen M Hornby... is an interesting piece of work."- thepublicreviews.com.

For Loving Her: "The first half opener is Loving Her, a short drama written and directed by Stephen M Hornby. This is very well written and reflects a turbulent period in recent gay history." - The British Theatre Guide

Stephen M Hornby is a playwright, theatre producer, regular reviewer and occasional director. He studied performance and directing at the University of Kent, gaining a First in Drama & Theatre Studies. He won a scholarship to the first Royal Court Theatre Summer School and was subsequently appointed as an Assistant Director. Stephen started writing for theatre in 2003. His first two plays (Dracula: Kabala of Fiends and Carol’s Christmas) were co-written with the award-winning Mariela Stevenson and performed by Conical Productions.

Stephen’s subsequent performance for Conical in the title role of Jim Smith: Princess of Wales (which he co-adapted with Stevenson from a script by Tomislav Zadjec) was Critic’s Choice at the New Wolsey Theatre. In the last few years Stephen has returned to theatre, becoming the Artistic Director for VADA LGBTQ Community Theatre and writing regularly for their shows.

A growing creative partnership with Ric Brady saw them collaborate on the production of two short films (Pretty Policemen and The Last Session), which were screened at the first Queer Media Festival at Media City, Salford. In December 2013, he and co-writer Ric, won the 24:7 Scratch Christmas Audience Award for Tinsel & Lights.

Stephen produced his first ACE funded show To Russia With Love: Stage at Contact Manchester in 2014, which featured a piece written by him One Abstention. He is delighted to have had The Box of Tricks accepted for 24:7.

RIC BRADY

"Lives in France. Will sing for money. Yorkshire: born and bred."

For the Last Session: “Damian McHugh and Richard Brady achieve a moving relationship in the latter’s The Last Session.” – What’s On Stage Review

Ric has written several plays, short films and TV spec scripts. He used to work in the banking and finance sector and now lives between Manchester and Paris.

After working as a Runner on various film shoots in his late-teens, Ric always knew he wanted to be a scriptwriter. It seemed like the perfect way to channel his overactive imagination and to make use of his daydreams.

Several of his short plays were performed by VADA LGBTQ Community Theatre Company. At the same time, Ric started his creative partnership with Stephen M Hornby, the Artistic Director of VADA. With Stephen, they went on to create two short films with VADA Productions, Macy’s Shoes and The Last Session, and contributed towards a string of shows.

Ric improved his writing skills and in 2013 he completed Creative Industries Trafford TV Script Writing School, which resulted in an amazing opportunity to pitch his TV spec script to TV Producers. In December 2013, he and co-writer Stephen, won the 24:7 Scratch Christmas Audience Award for Tinsel & Lights.

So far in 2014, Ric placed within the top 10% of international writers in NYC Midnight’s Short Screenplay Challenge 2013; and his short film, The Last Session, was screened at the Queer Media Festival in Salford. He also placed within the top 13% of the recent BBC Writersroom TV & Film Drama Script submission.

Adding to this, Box of Tricks, co-written with Stephen M Hornby, was selected for this year's 24:7 Theatre Festival. Ric is totally thrilled at the prospect of producing the play in Manchester.
